Belmonte Preschool Centre
Bagno a Ripoli, Firenze

The Belmonte preschool centre consists of two separate buildings: a nursery and a kindergarten.
This layout derives from the project process, which originally included only the nursery, to which the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRP) later allowed a kindergarten to be added.
The nursery and kindergarten are almost twin mirror buildings. Both have three classrooms and workshops sorrounding a central common space. The classrooms face the garden that borders a wooded hill.
The two buildings are aligned along the street, opposite a secondary school and the municipal library.
The goal of the project is to create urban public spaces characterised by the presence of these educational and cultural institutions. The nursery and kindergarten define the front of a garden-path, safe and welcoming for children and teenagers.
Halfway along the path, between the entrances of the two buildings, is a pedestrian square with special features. It is both a public space and the true heart of the preschool centre. It is a square for everyone, but designed with children in mind first. It is open towards the woods which, like the square and the street, can be a place of relationship and experience for all the children.
