“Campanello” is the first nursery in the municipality of Capri. It has found an unusual location on the ground floor of an old building halfway up the hill, not far from the harbor, on the site where a winery used to be based. The project kept in balance the respect for the morphology of the building and the need for functional changes to a use very different from the original destination. The interior rooms are laid out in the grid of the wall structure, maintaining the integrity of the vaults. The space is articulated and continuous. There are no separate rooms enclosed by doors. The new large windows on the north front relate interior and exterior and allow natural light to enter the full depth of the rooms. The design of the outdoor space echoes the tradition of Capri’s courtyards. Lines of bricks delineate squares of concrete, gravel, and grass. The interior and exterior furniture design tends to identify characterized areas to provide children with opportunities for activity and play.
